“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” — 1 Corinthians 3:16 (NIV)
When I was a kid, I loved visiting my great aunt’s house in summer time. She had the sweetest house that let in lots of sunshine. The backyard had a grassy place to run in the midst of orchard trees. The house itself felt so homey and welcoming. Every room was unique, special, and filled with memories.
While many years have passed since I’ve seen my great aunt’s old house, and she has gone on to make a new home with Jesus, this summer I was invited to a friend’s family lake cottage that’s filled with similar memories. It brought me back to those amazing childhood moments.
Today, as I invite the Holy Spirit to take me through His ongoing process of transformation, it helps me to think of those special homes of family and friends. Those memories help me to consider how the Holy Spirit experiences the house I offer Him (my body, heart, mind, emotions, spirit, life, entire being) because the Holy Spirit lives inside me.
What does He find in each room? Which closets need cleaning? Where do I need His help to rearrange or reupholster furniture — or let Him surprise me with new furnishings? Which walls will we delight in painting murals on together? Have I cluttered this inner home only with “work,” or have I offered plenty of space for us to play and have fun together?
The beauty of letting the Holy Spirit transform my inner home is that I don’t have to do it myself. If I will allow Him access to my whole self, He knows exactly what to do to make my home a place in which He and I will be delighted, a place where we will create wonderful memories. We get to transform this inner home together. What a beautiful invitation.
Holy Spirit, thank You for making Your wonderful home in me. I invite You to continue transforming me from the inside out, to make this inner home a place where You and I will create beautiful memories together. In Jesus’ name. Amen
Thought for the Day
Is there a room in your inner home where you would like the Holy Spirit to work in transforming you? He would love to answer your invitation. Will you invite Him, so you and He can get started on this transformation today?
