“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” — Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)
I love houseplants, and I have quite a few of these green friends that liven up my home. One thing I’ve learned is that houseplants require a lot of care. I check on them every morning and throughout the day, talking to them, seeing how they’re doing, adjusting their environment here and there. Each one is unique, and each day brings different challenges and blessings — the season, the angle of sunlight, humidity, and so many more tiny details that affect their well-being.
As I checked in on my plants this morning, I realized one needed water, seemingly overnight. Another needed more sunlight and less shade, while another needed more morning light. One plant needed a trim, while another’s soil needed drying out. One was being frustrated by an insect, while another’s roots were starting to get agitated.
As I worked with my plants, I saw with more clarity than ever how God tends to us every minute of every day. He sees exactly what’s happening with us (more than we do), and He knows what we need (much more than I do with my plants). Those tiny adjustments matter to Him, and He cares deeply about how each daily encounter affects us.
So often, we talk about how God watches over us. But tending my plants gave me a fresh perspective on what that means. He is not just watching over. He is looking closely, intentionally, lovingly reaching in to help us, with deep knowing, wanting us to thrive. If we invite Him, He will take every measure to minister to our deepest needs, as we navigate the daily challenges and changes in our lives and all that surrounds us.
Dear God, I’m so grateful that as much as I love my houseplants, You love me infinitely more. Thank You for tending to me each minute of the day and night, in every aspect of who I am and who You have created me to be. Help me to be open to receive Your help, guidance, promptings, pruning, blessings, and tender loving care. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
Thought for the Day
Take a moment to recognize how closely God tends to the garden of your life and how deeply He loves you.
