“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” — Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NKJV)
“‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.'” — John 10:10 (NKJV)
I was 42 years old before I realized I had lived my life in opposition to these truths of scripture. I hadn’t embraced the life God had given me. I grew up in difficult circumstances with a lot of trauma and fear. So I hid from life and pushed it away, and that was not God’s best for me.
Because my spirit turned away from life, my body was out of whack. I had lots of injuries and illnesses as a child. As I grew older, I nearly died of cancer. My spirit wasn’t choosing life, so my body followed suit.
Once I learned about this sin of not embracing fully the life God had given me – body, soul, and spirit – I repented and decided to start choosing life, deliberately, every day.
Since then, I’ve been healed of cancer and so many other afflictions. God was so faithful and good to see me through from death wish to full life. I am grateful.
Lord, sometimes when we go through difficult experiences, especially as a child, it’s hard to fully choose the life You gave us. We may not outwardly blame You for our circumstances, but inwardly we are turning against Your best for us. Sickness and injury often result from our turning from life. But You have a plan – to help us choose life, that we can freely and fully live as the people You created us to be. Thank You for life, God. And thank You for helping us to choose life. In Jesus’ name. Amen
Thought for the Day
Are you choosing life?
